I am an avid fisherman, mostly targeting Bass, Smallmouth in particular. I especially enjoy teaching others the joys of fishing. And the other phrase is something about "March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb". Well this is a story of fierce March Showers. So the original plan for yesterday was to go fishing after work with Doug. When we first discussed this, we said it would depend on weather. As it turned out, some family matters came up yesterday afternoon. I've actually been out three times in the last 3 weeks. I got one LM (17") on my first outing. Not much for a two hour effort, but satisfying none the less. The goal of my second outing was to help a friend get his first of 2009. I think his first was a 15" or 16". I was looking more at the smile on his face than I was at the fish. And then there was Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-49752456794502632032008-07-05T23:14:00.001-05:002008-07-05T23:15:58.440-05:00Overdue Pictures So I had said I would put these pictures up from the recent outing (6/19) with my son Kyle and his friend Scott. These were not the only fish caught that night, but I wanted to make sure I got a picture up for each of the guys. The first picture is Scott and his first Fermilab LM Bass. The next picture is Kyle and an 8 or 9 inch Bluegill that hit a Zarra Puppy (topwater).I did not post a Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-78318852930138015262008-06-19T23:20:00.002-05:002008-06-19T23:34:43.357-05:00Fishing with my sonI went fishing this evening with my son and his friend Scott. Scott is an avid fisherman. He brought two rods along, a fly rod and a baitcaster. He is obviously not a rookie. I set Kyle up with one of my spinning rods. He is getting better with it each time we go out.We all caught fish, but that was not the truly significant part of this evening. What's really cool is that my son, who has Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-29237373961785534932007-11-02T20:11:00.000-05:002007-11-02T20:17:02.405-05:00Just a few minutes after workMy buddy Tom called and asked if I had time for a few minutes of fishing after work. I could not get away from my desk before 5:00 and with the sun going down by 6:30, it was certain to be just a few minutes. His daughter Mandy had not been able to come out to join us on any of our previous outings, but she came along for this short outing. Well, I got the first fish of the night but it was Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-33236226431196817892007-09-24T14:20:00.000-05:002007-11-02T20:16:06.909-05:00Water at FermilabThis photo was in today's "Fermilab Today" electronic newsletter. Yes, there is plenty of water at Fermilab. And much of it is accessible to the general public. The cooling ponds on the Tevetron and the Main Injector (the two rings in the foreground) are not accessible to the general public. Even employees are not allowed access to the colling ponds on the Tevetron (the larger ring). But Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-85742226308804712032007-09-12T09:20:00.001-05:002007-09-12T10:26:47.314-05:00Somebody else's "vacation"Sorry, here's another post that is not about fishing at Fermilab. It is about my regular fishing partner Jamie and his recent fishing trip. That last post of mine about my first Snook while I was on vacation last month, looks downright pale in comparison to the fishing trip Jamie recently came back from. Fishing was certainly not the central theme of my vacation and I really only got in one Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-90040153757115651542007-08-19T12:55:00.000-05:002007-08-19T13:07:50.532-05:00Fishing while on VacationSo to truely get in some decent fishing, I had to really get away from work (I left the pager at home and everything). I got out last week while on vacation with my family down in Sarasota FL. I know, who goes to Florida in early August? Well, I got a deal that was just too good to pass up. I went out with a local guide, Capt Rick Grassett. We started before sunrise, fishing lighted piers for Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-75151369494987740872007-07-20T11:09:00.000-05:002007-07-20T17:36:06.017-05:00Dynamic Duo...or just two guys with some free time.OKay, so I have failed to update this very often. Well, last night was a really fun evening when mybuddy Jamie and I went fishing. I won't bother to write a report, when I can just link to his report (at CustomFish.com).<*))))))<: Dynamic Duo...or just two guys with some free time. Whatever.Rebuttal: It was a very good evening of fishing. And yes, I had borrowed Jamie's 5 wt rod. That's cuz I got two nice Smallies in one day. The previous post showed my 19" Smallie in a horrible picture that I took while fishing all by myself. It's hard to get a good angle on the fish so you can truely appreciate how pretty the coloring is on one of these. But after work, I got in 45 mins with a friend. We both enjoyed watching this one "do the tail dance". And Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21812213.post-1138805069941896882006-02-01T09:40:00.000-06:002006-02-02T11:17:32.936-06:00Off to a good startSo it is the first of Feb and I got to work a little early today. I figured with the temp up to a suprisingly high 40 degrees, I would spend about 30 mins fishing before work. So I visited a warm water spot where I have found Smallmouth Bass before. And look what I found. This fish did "the tail dance" about 6 or 7 times. It came in at 19" and has some wonderful color to it. Now that is the way Kenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04565350765688257088noreply@blogger.com0
